Birthday Girl

Kate had a great 1st birthday. We had a birthday party for her at home and it was filled with friends, balloons, pizza, cake and presents! Kate loved all the attention. Im not much of a baker..but I wanted to make Kate's birthday cake. Even though it took me 3 hrs to make....I think it turned out pretty good (especially since it was my first cake attempt). I made her a fairy barbie cake (the top part is actually a barbie...and the skirt is made of cake and frosting). I had fun making it...so I think that will be my little tradition...to make my kids their birthday cakes! We really enjoyed celebrating her birthday...but it was sad for me too......its hard when your baby turns 1 and you have to accept that she's not a baby anymore. Now she's walking and eating big people food. I have a toddler.....not a baby.......I still haven't quite come to grips with that yet. Im sure all you mommies out there can relate. I took Kate for her 1 yr doctors appointment and she now weighs 17lbs!! She finally has made it back on the growth charts and is in the whopping 5% for her age. Even though she's getting older...shes still our little bean! We also celebrated her birthday with Eric's family. Kate and her cousin (who was born a month before Kate) each got their own cake to dig into. They were both pretty unsure about the cake and the hordes of people singing to them....but once Kate got a taste of the frosting ..it was all over! She dug right into that cake and had frosting and cake everywhere! Thanks to everyone who helped make her birthday extra special. We really appreciated all the phone calls, cards and gifts.
